The first sauna where it all began
Alegría Sol Uno
is the first sauna we ever built and, at the same time, the pilot model from which the whole idea of Alegría Sauna began. It was not perfect, but that is exactly why it became so important to us. Through it, the core idea emerged, forming the foundation on which the entire concept was later built.
The idea for the sauna did not come from a single source, but rather from several starting points. My actual professional career has been in 3D design and visualization, working with house manufacturers. Through that, I developed an understanding of proportions, structures, and how a whole design works even before anything is physically built.
Another important starting point was logistics. At an early stage, it was clear that the sauna had to be logistics-friendly. My background in logistics influenced this strongly. The product had to be something that could be packed and transported safely to the customer. Carefully designed logistics are not only a practical solution, but also an environmentally responsible choice.
The third, and perhaps deepest, starting point is connected to the way we do things. We want to build things ourselves and truly understand how they work. In Finland, we have built and renovated a log house that is over one hundred years old, and in Spain, we have continued along the same path by restoring an old stone house for a new purpose. This has taught us that when the groundwork is done carefully, the finishing process also becomes smoother.
Our house in Spain has only 5.5 kW of electrical power available, and using a wood-burning stove is not possible. This directly defined the size of the heater and, through that, the proportions of the sauna itself. The sauna had to be designed to function within these limitations, not in spite of them.
The journey from concept to construction took about two years. Every part had to be designed several times in order to make the components as light as possible, while strength could not be compromised. The price also had to be kept as low as possible. For this reason, the construction of the parts had to be fast and efficient.
Our own sauna took shape in our backyard in Finland. It was built quickly and without a proper workspace, largely outdoors and with limited tools. The result was not perfect. There were gaps in the joints, the glass panels did not fit entirely into place, and the roof did protect the structure, but it did not look particularly refined or sturdy. What mattered most, however, was proving that the sauna worked and that the steam and heat were perfect. The core idea was sound.

That is precisely why this first sauna became so important. Every inaccuracy, every limitation, and every solution taught us how things could be done better the next time. Based on these experiences, Alegría Saunas have evolved into something clearer, more functional, and more refined.
Alegría Sol Uno is the first sauna we built — the pilot model from which the entire idea of Alegría Sauna originated. It was not perfect, but that is exactly why it mattered. It was the starting point of a journey that is still continuing.
